Nancy

Nancy Horenburg  has been living in Botswana and Africa for more than 30 years. She is currently living at The Land in Mokatse - 30 km from Gaborone, Botswana-  and is running, among other things, with Françoise Horenburg, her mother, various health and well-being services and courses.

She is a martial artist for more than 20 years in the art of Karate, where she holds a 2nd Dan, and in other arts such as Gong fu, Taijiquan, Jujitsu and Capoeira. The martial arts philosophy health, fitness, character development and body, mind, spirit harmony has inspired her in her life. It has greatly contributed to all areas of her life as a martial art and fitness instructor, artist, food creator and a lover of animals and nature.

She has skilled experience in running weekend programs for children  based on health, fitness, life skills and creativity and for adults based on health, fitness and food preparation.

She is also a Virtues Project™ and a Capacitar International Facilitator, and includes some of the techniques in her classes and in daily life. Both modalities help to bring about a greater state of well-being and complete health and wellness.

Nancy is a guild-certified Tellington Touch Practitioner. The Tellington TTouch Method is a unique approach to the care and training of our animal companions. An inspirational method of improving your animal’s health, behaviour, performance and well being that provides solid, practical solutions for challenges common among dogs, cats and other animals.

Nancy is also an accomplished artist in the mediums of watercolour and clay sculpture. She had three solo watercolour painting and one solo watercolour/clay sculpture exhibitions in Gaborone. She has provided illustrations for a set of books for UNICEF and Seventh Day Adventist (Prevention and Mitigation of HIV and AIDS), illustrated Michael Roads children’s book ‘Sago, The Caterpillar Who Wanted to Fly’ and is currently illustrating his second book.

More art is being created to be available on her website, www.nancysartnook.com.

Since January 2005, Nancy has been the educator for Partners in Botho Project (an NGO founded by Nancy and Françoise Horenburg) for the children of Mokatse/Modipane villages where Nancy and Françoise are living. Twice a week, Nancy gives two hours of her time. For the first hour, the kids are free to play with whatever toys and games are on hand: footballs, tennis, puzzles, skipping ropes, badminton, ping pong, paper and colouring pencils and colouring books, reading books, etc. For the next hour, the class is formal, with the kids learning anything from martial arts such as Karate, Kung fu and Capoeira, to yoga, Capacitar, art and crafts, singing, dancing, and music. Other activities happen over a Saturday morning or over the once or twice a year Camp. There they learn the above activities and also life skills, cooking, and other types of games and potential development activities.

In addition, Nancy has passion and practical knowledge in life-skills, fitness, self-care, self-sufficiency, sustainability, vegetarian and vegan cooking,  raw cuisine, wood work, gardening, camping, animal care, protection of the environment/care of the planet, healthy and simple nutrition, self-sufficiency in learning, and living a simple holistic harmonious life.

Nancy’s latest passion is chocolate, the real chocolate, made with organic cacao butter, cacao paste, organic sugar, a pinch of vanilla and Himalayan salt, and a sprinkle of passion and love. Find her delicious creations at her regular stall at the Bull and Bush Farmers Market every last Saturday of the month, and at the Phakalane Pop-Up Market every first Saturday of the month. You’ll also get a taste of kale chips, breads made with organic stoneground flour, cookies, vegan nut cheese, kombucha, fresh aloe drinks, and more. You’ll also find her art and crafts, so pop by for a visit!

Ultimately, Nancy aspires to live a life of harmony (with chocolate…:-)); physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually; all the while living to the tune of Earth’s song and that of her own heart and soul. <3
